Life at Heywood Prep

Welcome to Reception.

The children had a fantastic first term at school, learning about Percy the Park Keeper and travelling around the world with Barnaby Bear.

Now moving into the Spring term Reception will become 'Learning Superheroes' and use the super powers to help them learn lots of interesting and important facts about 'Real Life Superheroes' as well as those brilliant Superheroes we all love to read about in comics and books alike (Bat Man, Robin and Banana Man to name a few).

Our Topic this term is:

This term, as well as learning about Superheroes, the Reception children are working really hard to master the pre-cursive handwriting style. Each week we will focus on 2 letters, starting with 'Curly Caterpillar Letters' .

 More about Reception at Heywood

At Heywood Prep we believe that play is at the heart of all learning. In the Early Years Foundation Stage the children follow the EYFS Framework. They are encouraged to experience a wide range of activities to ensure that they develop as well rounded, independent learners.

The EYFS consists of 7 areas of learning. These are broken down into prime and specific areas.

The 3 prime areas are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The 4 specific areas are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The children socialise and learn alongside each other, with Mrs Lawrence, Miss Vernon and our TA Miss Lewis working closely together to ensure that each child experiences a wide range of activities and opportunities. Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning so that they can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.  At all times the children’s learning is regularly assessed to ensure that each child can reach their full potential.

The children will also receive weekly lessons by specialist teachers for swimming, music, singing and PE.
