Life at Heywood Prep

Meet the Prep Team

Rebecca Mitchell

Rebecca Mitchell, Deputy Head and Year 3 Form Tutor
MA (Cantab), PGCE

Having gained a degree in Geography and Education from Cambridge University, Rebecca taught at Rose Hill Westonbirt for seven years, developing experience across the Foundation Stage, Pre-Prep and Prep. Her interest in travelling and broadening horizons has taken her to India, Thailand and most recently she took her two children to South Africa.  A self confessed "multi-tasker", creative interests include photography and specialist cake making!  With two boys of her own, Rebecca understands the importance of great communication between parents and teachers and is particularly keen to encourage creative thinking and writing, especially for boys.

She says: Heywood Prep is a truly inspiring learning environment, which reminds me of my own prep school, where I spent my very happy formative years.

Mark Bonner, Science Co-ordinator and Year 3 Form Tutor
B.Ed. Hons.

Year 3 teacher and Science Co-ordinator, Mark Bonner began his teaching career up in North Yorkshire five years ago. He came to teaching after ‘realising I was really not that great at selling mortgages!’.

Mr Bonner has always worked in the independent sector and really enjoys throwing himself into all aspects of school life. He moved to Cirencester when he was married in the summer of 2014 and enjoyed a short spell teaching at fellow Wishford School, Hatherop Castle.

He says: I feel very fortunate to be at Heywood Prep at this stage of my life. The children have been incredibly welcoming and it’s a great feeling to be part of such a happy and focused staff room.

 Ashleigh Cammiade

Miss Cammiade great passion is sport, with a particular interest in netball. She currently plays regional netball for Team Bath, and enjoys attending international and superlegue netball as a supporter too. Come winter, she will be found heading off to the mountains, snowboard in hand.

She says: As a keen sportswoman and advocate of physical activity, I am relishing the opportunity to share my experience with the pupils at Heywood Prep. The welcoming atmosphere and setting of Heywood is very encouraging and I am looking forward to getting started!

Kimberly Evans, Year 4 Form Tutor
B.Sc. Hons. PGCE

Before Year 4 tutor Kimberly Evans started her career in education, she graduated from The Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester with an honours degree in International Business Management. While working in the finance sector for a wealth management company, her desire to branch into teaching was stimulated by the arrival of her niece and supported by fond memories of her parent’s nursery. Miss Evans graduated from Oxford Brookes with a level 7 PGCE and a deepened interest in teaching.

Miss Evans started her teaching career at a junior school in Highworth, Wiltshire, where she taught Years 4 and 5. During her time there she was also PE Coordinator. Skiing, rock climbing and lacrosse are a small selection of the sports that she enjoys and partakes in whenever possible.

She says: What attracted me to Heywood Prep was the strong sense of community amongst both the children and staff. I feel very privileged to work in such a dynamic school.

Fiona Colbridge, Head of Prep and Year 5 Form Tutor
B.Ed. Hons.

Head of Prep, Year 5 form teacher and famously enthusiastic history teacher, Fiona Colbridge is a Cambridge University graduate, and taught at Stonar School in Wiltshire and Guildford High School before moving back to the West country and Heywood Prep in 2000, her first opportunity to teach boys as well as girls. An art, museum and theatre buff, she is also interested in ecology.

She says: As a keen historian, I really enjoy the historic setting of Heywood Prep and the peacocks from Corsham Court wandering through the grounds are certainly a unique feature of the school!  It is always a great pleasure watching the changing seasons here. I particularly like the special feeling Heywood Prep creates of being part of a community of staff, pupils and parents and the caring, friendly attitude the children show each other across the age groups.

Thom Ruane, Year 6 Form Tutor

B.Ed. Hons.

Heywood Prep’s Year 6 form tutor, Thom Ruane, became a teacher after a career as a management consultant in the IT sector. After a stint teaching in London, Mr Ruane moved to Badminton Junior School where he taught maths and ICT. He has particular experience in readying children for senior school entrance exams. A lover of the great outdoors, Mr Ruane is also a very keen sportsman. He still plays hockey for Bristol and West H.C, and previously played league cricket in Scotland and England. As a Scotland rugby supporter, he says he is normally grumpy for the entirety of the Six Nations! He is also an enthusiastic breadmaker, still perfecting his sour dough loaf!

He says: The camaraderie of the staff room and the enthusiasm of the children make Heywood a great place to teach. Whether on the sports pitch or in the class room, the general bonhomie make coming to work a joy.
