Olivia - a night to remember

Last night, Years 5 and 6 put on a show fit for the West End. Olivia was a lively mash-up of all things Victorian, bringing together Sherlock Holmes, Eliza Dolittle, Ebeneezer Scrooge, Gilbert and Sullivan, Fagin, the Artful Dodger and, of course, the eponymous orphan (or is she?) Olivia. There was melodrama and pathos, comedy and plot twists, songs and laughs aplenty, and brilliant acting and dancing on display. After making it through the dress rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon in temperatures above 30 degrees, it was a huge relief that conditions for the final performance were considerably cooler.

What a talented cast, whipped into shape by director Miss Colbridge (who spent her birthday night at the performance), musical director Mrs Williamson and technical whizz Mr Ruane. As usual, parents came up trumps on costume, hair, make-up and the fabulous set - thank you Mrs Stethridge, Mrs Shepperdson and Mr and Mrs Bicknell. Thanks are also due to the long-suffering Mr Siman whose brief but unforgettable cameo role as Wagner's Brunhilde, in sparkly dress, blond plaits and Viking helmet, must make last year's appearance as Freddie Mercury in We Will Rock You seem like a walk in the park.

Huge congratulations to all our brilliantly talented Year 5s and 6s. You gave us a night to remember!
