Sports News w/c 22nd November

Sports Newsletter w/c 22nd Jan

There have been some excellent performances in our sports teams this week. We have been very competitive in all of our fixtures, and the Year 4 have shown some great promise. It has been a real shame that again, weather has hampered some of the games and the Yr 6 boys will be hoping that this changes for next Wednesday.

However, the highlight of the week goes to the Yr 4 Girls ISA South West Cross Country team who stormed to success on Wednesday. Congratulations to Michelle 1st, Matilda (Yr 3) 2nd, Holly 4th and Lily 7th. An incredible team performance. Do follow us on Twitter to see all of the pictures. Next week sees fixtures at Warminster and festivals at St Margaret’s and Kingswood.

U8A Jnr Boys’ Hockey @ Monkton Combe

The U8's travelled to Monkton Combe Prep to play their first hockey festival and matches of the season. They played against Monkton Combe, Paragon and St Margaret's and despite dominating large portions of each game, unfortunately went down in each. There was excellent work rate from Monty Luke and Henry whilst William G showed some excellent stick skills.  Well done to the number of players who also stepped up and played for the U9B's due to illness.

UB Jnr Boys’ Hockey @ Monkton Combe

The boys had a tough time at Monkton on Monday. They were up against some quick, well-drilled opposition who were better a using the space. We struggled to get the ball to our players and as such the opposition found it easy to run in to our D and get off some shots. We will need to work on our marking and positional play to do our best in the future. The highlight of the day was a win against St Margaret’s; a largely tight affair was set alight when Jack broke free, made a good run and scored.

The Under 9 A's were unbeaten in a tournament up at Stonar playing some lovely and expansive hockey. The first match was an exhibition in playing the ball around the pitch resulting in a 4-0 victory. A 1-0 win soon followed with the winning goal scored by Alfie . Heywood's final match ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Overall a very successful day.

POM:  William for his tactical discipline.

Reduced, by illness and absence, to just 3 the U9B were lucky to be bolstered by a number of the U8 squad. All fought hard and put on a great display. The results went against us in a couple of games despite being in control for the majority of the match. In a slight mismatch the team were pitched against a very strong St Margaret’s team and despite losing can be very proud of themselves. Player of the tournament William.

U8 Jnr Girls’ Netball @ Monkton Combe

On Monday 22nd January, we played against Monkton School. We all played very well and really loved playing out match and drew 0-0. A special mention to Tabitha, Rosie, Poppy E and Lily W, who played for the other team as they were short on players. My player of the match is Sunday Johnston for being brave and carrying on after she fell over.

On Monday 22nd January, we went to Monkton Prep School, Unfortunately we lost our match because the other team were very strong.  Even though we lost we still played really well. My player of the match is Elise, for her great marking and always catching the ball. We really enjoyed our first match of the term.

U10 Snr Girls’ Netball v Stonar School

On Wednesday 24th January 2018 the Year 5 girls’ played a netball match against Stonar.  We won 2-1.  We were moving quickly on the court and made some strong passes and good interceptions.  We need to improve on marking our players.  My player of the match is Emily W who was excellent at getting away from her player and finding space. Well done everyone!

U11 Snr Girls’ Netball v Stonar School

On Wednesday 24th January, Year 5 and 6 went to Stonar to play netball. The Year 6 played 4 quarters, where we all had an opportunity to play and tried a few different positions. Our passes were clear and strong which meant we moved the ball quickly through the court. Also, our interceptions were amazing. My player of the match is Shreya for great passing. The girls had a great time and we would like to thank Stonar for letting us play at their school.
