Sports News w/c 5th February

Sports Newsletter w/c 5th February

Heywood Prep have once again enjoyed a successful week of sport, participating in a number of fixtures and festivals. I have been really pleased with the effort and commitment of the children this term and their willingness to learn and improve their skill level. This has been evident in their match play and in their match results and I hope this continues after the half term break.

On Friday, I witnessed some fantastic determined running in our Inter House annual Pancake Races from down in Reception all the way up to Yr 6. We even managed to get in a staff race! Congratulations go to Romans House who narrowly won and have now taken a lead in the House Competition.

On the theme of running and on the back of our successful cross country events and teams, I am pleased to announce that Heywood Prep will be sponsoring the Corsham 10K & 2K Jnr Races on Sunday 22nd April. The adult 10K online entry is now open, but the Junior 2K race will open for entries on Sun 22nd Feb 9am.  Please see the link  below. http://corsham10k.co.uk/race.html

Have a lovely break and I look forward to seeing you all after half term.

Monday 5th February

U9A Jnr Boys’ Hockey @ Stonar School

On Monday the U9 A’s took part in a match against Stonar. A fast start saw Heywood 3-0 up very quickly with some free flowing hockey being played. All players showed an awareness of space and were starting to utilise it to it’s potential. Heywood ran out 7-2 victors with Elliott scoring a brilliant double hat-trick. It was a true team effort with a clinical cutting edge. Player of the match goes to Elliott for his goal scoring exploits.

U9B Jnr Boys’ Hockey @ Stonar School

The under 9 B team had a very good turn out against Stonar on Monday. Bolstered by some Year 3 boys, they put in a solid performance. Enjoying some good possession and goals we were able to give everyone the opportunity to try different positions on the pitch. Henry and Luke, 2 of the Year 3 boys, proved very strong in defence when asked to give it a go. Goals were contributed by the majority of the team but everyone helped make the game an enjoyable win.

Player of the match: Luke for his strong contributions in all areas of the game.

POM: Luke

U8 Jnr Girls’ Netball @ Stonar School

On Monday the Year 3s played against Stonar. The score was 4-0 to Stonar. Our team was good at intercepting and catching the ball. We need to improve on looking for someone who is free to pass to. The player of the match is Zara because she looked for space and was always enthusiastic even though we lost.

U9A Jnr Girls’ Netball @ Stonar School

On Monday, some of the Year 4's played against Stonar. The score was 0-0. I think the team needs to improve on spacing out as we got a little bit crowded. We were good at catching and our passing is getting stronger. The player of the match was awarded to Lily for finding space on the court by dodging away from her defender.

Wednesday 7th February

U10 Netball Bath Schools’ Festival @ Kingswood

On Wednesday 7th February some year 5 girls played a netball tournament at Kingswood.  Outstanding performances all round, everyone played so well together and supported each other on and off the court. They played 6 games and won 4 of them yet the 2 we lost were due to Milly and Emily W having to play for the other team as they didn’t have enough players. Well done everyone for a fantastic afternoon of netball. Player of the tournament was Georgina for her movement on court, versatility and netball skills. Well done.
