Meet the Prep Team

Fiona Colbridge, Head of Prep and Year 3 Form Tutor
B.Ed. Hons.

Head of Prep, Year 5 form teacher and famously enthusiastic history teacher, Fiona Colbridge is a Cambridge University graduate, and taught at Stonar School in Wiltshire and Guildford High School before moving back to the West country and Heywood Prep in 2000, her first opportunity to teach boys as well as girls. An art, museum and theatre buff, she is also interested in ecology.

She says: As a keen historian, I really enjoy the historic setting of Heywood Prep and the peacocks from Corsham Court wandering through the grounds are certainly a unique feature of the school!  It is always a great pleasure watching the changing seasons here. I particularly like the special feeling Heywood Prep creates of being part of a community of staff, pupils and parents and the caring, friendly attitude the children show each other across the age groups.

Kimberly Evans, Year 3 Form Tutor

B.Sc. Hons. International Business Management and French PGCE, QTS.

Before Year 4 tutor Kimberly Evans started her career in education, she graduated from The Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester with an honours degree in International Business Management. While working in the finance sector for a wealth management company, her desire to branch into teaching was stimulated by the arrival of her niece and supported by fond memories of her parent’s nursery. Miss Evans graduated from Oxford Brookes with a level 7 PGCE and a deepened interest in teaching.

Miss Evans started her teaching career at a junior school in Highworth, Wiltshire, where she taught Years 4 and 5. During her time there she was also PE Coordinator. Skiing, rock climbing and lacrosse are a small selection of the sports that she enjoys and partakes in whenever possible.

She says: What attracted me to Heywood Prep was the strong sense of community amongst both the children and staff. I feel very privileged to work in such a dynamic school.

Camilla Evans, Year 4 Form Tutor
BA Dance (Hons), TEFL, PGCE, QTS.

Before qualifying as a teacher in 2009, Camilla Evans worked in Bristol teaching English and volunteered with Dance South Gloucestershire working with young contemporary dancers.   She joined Heywood Prep in 2016 after spending several years as the Maths Subject Leader of Oldfield Park Junior School in Bath.  Camilla enjoys everything and anything to do with Space, joining in on observations with Bath Astronomers and attending lectures by the Bath Astronomical Society at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution.  She balances this out with a good interest in video games.

She says: The opportunity to work in a school with both creative and academic strength was a very exciting prospect.  The whole community is incredibly supportive in enabling all of the children to reach their potential across the curriculum.

Christopher Knight, Year 4 Form Tutor and Director of Sport

B Ed. (Hons),

Heather Fitzpatrick, Year 5 Form Tutor

Joseph Siman, Year 5 Form Tutor

BA (Hons) English Literature, PG Dip Law. PGCE, QTS

After getting his degree in English Literature, Joseph Siman had a brief sojourn into the world of Law, acquiring his PgDipLaw and experience in Law firms, before deciding that his passion and talents lay in teaching.  Joseph is a passionate sportsman outside of school, taking part in IRONMAN triathlons, marathons, as well as hockey, rugby and anything else that may be considered ridiculous.   He is an ardent supporter of the importance of involvement in sport for children, helping them both physically and mentally.

He says: Coming from a long line of teachers, it is a profession with which I have always had a close connection and strong affiliation.  I am extremely excited and enthused about starting my teaching career at Heywood Prep.

Samantha Millard, Year 6 Form Tutor
B.Mus. (Hons), PGCE, QTS

Thom Ruane, Year 6 Form Tutor

B.Ed. (Hons)

Heywood Prep’s Year 5 form tutor, Thom Ruane, became a teacher after a career as a management consultant in the IT sector. After a stint teaching in London, Mr Ruane moved to Badminton Junior School where he taught maths and ICT. He has particular experience in readying children for senior school entrance exams. A lover of the great outdoors, Mr Ruane is also a very keen sportsman. He still plays hockey for Bristol and West H.C, and previously played league cricket in Scotland and England. As a Scotland rugby supporter, he says he is normally grumpy for the entirety of the Six Nations! He is also an enthusiastic breadmaker, still perfecting his sour dough loaf!

He says: The camaraderie of the staff room and the enthusiasm of the children make Heywood a great place to teach. Whether on the sports pitch or in the class room, the general bonhomie make coming to work a joy.
