Sports Newsletter w/c 15th Jan

This week saw our first sets of fixtures for the boys hockey and girls netball teams. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the games at Warminster for the U8 and U9 and Kingswood for the U11 boys were unable to go ahead. Next week we look forward to our fixtures with Monkton Combe Prep and Stonar whilst we also wish the selected Yr 4's the best of luck at the ISA Cross Country, in Devon.

U10A Snr Boys' Hockey Bath Festival at St Margaret's

The U10a's played their first competitive games of the season at St Margaret's Bath Schools' hockey festival. Their first match was against Paragon which was an extremely difficult game. Paragon had the majority of play but by working hard in defence, and some outstanding saves by our goalkeeper Rowan, we kept them out and settled for a 0-0 draw. The second game was a different affair as Heywood dominated proceedings with Guy making a number of influential passes to Joe and Henry. However, Heywood could simply not get the breakthrough and a 0-0 was the final result. In their last game versus Kingswood, Heywood began strongly and an own goal gave Heywood the lead. Joshua and Ed had influential games. However, in the last two minutes, Heywood gave away 3 sloppy goals from not marking up and reacting to the loose ball and saw Heywood go down 1-3.

U10B Snr Boys' Hockey Bath Festival at St Margaret's

On a cold afternoon at St Margaret's, a Heywood team undertook the challenge of a Hockey festival. The outcome was quite commendable. Heywood did not manage to win a match, but lost one and drew two conceding just the one goal.

Player of the match went to Alfie Parsons for his terrific attitude and running.

U10 Snr Girls' Netball v Royal High School

We played a netball match against Royal High School on Wednesday 17th January. We unfortunately lost, but everyone played really well. We did strong shoulder passes, and never gave up. Next match we need to improve on our spacing. The player of the match is Emily Whittaker, for running into space and chasing the ball.

U11 Snr Girls' Netball v Royal High School

On Wednesday 17th January, Royal High School visited us to play some netball. The Year 6 girls were playing in thirds. For the first third the score was 0-1 to Royal High. After that, the score was 0-3 to Royal High. Finally, it was a tough game but the score was 0-5. We enjoyed having Royal High to visit us and we hope they can come again. My player of the match is Kate for always trying to get into space and defend her player. Well done to the team.
